Red Oil Swirls no.1 (Generative AI Experiments)

TL;DR // This is attempt number 2 with generative AI and images. We're continuing with the abstract oil paint theme that we began with in attempt number 1.

Generative AI Prompt Variations

Once again we're using Generative AI with DALL-E to create images from text prompts. And remember, these images are created with a computer neural network. Not a person.

I'm continuing with a variation of the prompt we tried in the first iteration, so expect similarity. We're just tweaking as we learn.

The addition to the prompt is the last sentence: curves and arcs.

Group 1: "Clean"

Group 2: "Lifted"

Do you notice anything different between the two groups? Or why the images are grouped the way they are?

If you zoom in and look at the bottom right corner of each image in Group 2, you'll see what appears to be a signature. To me it looks like an artist's signature. That's... concerning. How much of these results are truly "generative AI" vs slight modifications to some original artist's work?

Selects

Here are a few that stood out for me:

Prompt 1 // Image 2

Why? The blue added a sinewy, almost smoky, contrast that added some new interest to the abstract forms.

Prompt 1 // Image 5

Why? It's wispy and detailed, with the feel of something billowing over a boiling cauldron.

Prompt 1 // Image 24

Why? This one added some white speckling, not present in the other images, and it feels like it has more texture, or physical depth. (I.e., simulation of real oil paint.)

Conclusion

The simple summary here is we've generated more of the same like our first attempt. But in the process already identified a potential ethical conflict: re-use of someone else's work possibly without attribution.

I'm not sure how to feel about that. But the process and results is addictive and interesting, and I'm sure there will be many more experiments.
